Three is seen as a significant, or even lucky number by some people. Do good things, or bad things in life come to you in threes? It is said that, if you ever want to emphasise a point, then repeat it three times, “Location, location, location”. If you make a mistake in life once, then learn from it. If you make the same mistake twice, then that is a little unfortunate. But if you make the same mistake three times, then you are not making a mistake, you are repeating a pattern.
There are many examples of trinities in a religious sense. Most well-known being in the Christian sense of the Father, Son, and, Holy Spirit. But there are others, the Three Patriarchs in Judaism, Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. And in Hinduism there is the trinity of Brahma the Creator, Vishnu the Preserver, and Shiva the Destroyer. The trinity that I want to introduce you to here is the trinity of consciousness. You have a conscious, an unconscious and a higher conscious mind. The fact that you have a conscious and an unconscious mind should really not be news to you. Simply put, your conscious mind is dealing with everything that you are currently aware of, and your unconscious mind is dealing with everything else. Your unconscious mind
- Stores and organises your memories.
- Runs your body. It pumps your blood and digests your food.
- It creates the perceptual world that you experience from the information it receives from your five sense.
- It stores aspects of your persona, such as your preferences, beliefs, and values. We can certainly bring these into our conscious awareness, but they are stored in the unconscious.
- It presents negative aspects of the persona to the conscious mind, to make them rational, and let them go.
- Also all of your behaviour runs unconsciously. You may well have conscious volition to raise your arm in the air, but it is your unconscious mind that raises it in the air for you. We do chose to do things consciously, but the doing of them is unconscious.
So your unconscious mind is really doing quite a lot for you, all of it automatically. The other aspect of this trinity is your higher conscious mind. Now this may well be an aspect of your consciousness that you were not previously aware of. Nevertheless it is embedded in the ideas of Western Esoteric thinking, and if you know what you are looking for you will also see it in the Tarot. One of the reasons why it may not be obvious that you have a higher conscious mind, is that all the communication that you might like to attribute to the higher conscious mind, comes into consciousness through the unconscious. Things like, flashes of inspiration, creative urges, insights and knowings. The higher conscious mind is that aspect of you that exists outside of the confines of our Earthly time-space existence. It has the ability to perceive further than the conscious mind can see.
The secret to a happy life is to have all three of these aspects of consciousness aligned in common purpose, and all doing the jobs they are designed to do. The conscious mind is the experiencer, it chooses what you prefer, and what you do not prefer. The unconscious mind faithfully creates your experience, based on who you think you are, and what you think you prefer, good or bad. Your higher conscious mind is silently directing the whole drama, you really only get a hint that it might be there when a synchronicity crops up in your life. So how do you get all three aligned? Consciously pay attention to what excites you in your life and then act on that, with integrity. This sense of excitement or passion in life is how you translate the sense of being aligned to your higher conscious mind. Whilst you do this allow your unconscious mind to present to you anything negative about yourself, so that you can make it conscious and thereby, let it go. When your trinity of consciousness is aligned, your life will run like a well-oiled machine, and good things will come to you in threes…
