The Big Picture
Every marketing guru will tell you that to build a successful business, you should create a unique, unforgettable brand. Carve out a highly-focused niche for yourself, and align your marketing strategy to it. Which is why if you are a finance management consultant by day, and a tantric sex teacher by night, perhaps having two different websites to promote your services might be a good idea. One reason is simply because your audience might not be the same. It also allows you the freedom to be fully yourself on both websites. I’m all for that. At the same time, it seems to me that the niche approach also encourages a certain kind of fragmentation. And that’s okay, of course; so long as we remember that business success happens within life, not the other way around. No matter how many Facebook pages and business cards you create to define, organise and prioritise your life, at the end of the day it is only just you out there living it. Whatever you do is always experienced through the prism of your own perspective. And everything takes place within you. This is why in NLP we focus on developing wholeness in people.
Now of course, on one level it might not matter. You can be and do all kinds of different things, and be perfectly well-adjusted. A more diverse experience makes for a richer one, true. For some people though, always wearing different hats can lead to a certain disconnect. Because when you start to adopt separate personalities depending on whether you’re at work or not, and who you’re talking to, when you mention certain things and keep others quiet, essentially hiding things, ask yourself: for what purpose are you doing so? Are you limiting yourself in some way? Projecting onto the other person your own ideas and fears about what you believe they will be happy to hear, accept or tolerate? In other words, do you have limiting beliefs that stop you from sharing all of yourself with all of the people around you? If so, take action now. Throw light on those areas of your life that you feel you cannot express. And yes, when you do this, you will encounter resistance. Your unconscious mind will throw things at you like, ‘What will people think?’, ‘Will I lose my job?’, ‘What if they leave me?’ and, ‘This is too scary!’ Well, okay. But so what? People and circumstances that do not allow for 100% of your being to shine are people and circumstances you do not want around in the first place. What you do want is total inner alignment and congruency, which in turn will allow for the same to be reflected in your everyday experience. This is success, real and sustainable.
The next level is about learning to connect to the unifying force that pulls everything together. Because once you are whole and complete, you’re in business, literally! Then you can enjoy the experience of positive fragmentation, for learning, spiritual growth, business achievement, etc., whilst remaining connected to the energy of the whole. See, it’s not what you do that really matters, it’s the energy that being in that state produces. So, you might be at your peak vibratory state when you are buying and selling shares on the internet. Or when you teach the art of prolonged orgasm to people. Same difference. For me, I’m at my peak when I’m writing. That’s when I feel inspired and at my most creative. When I lose track of time, flow, and become an open conduit for more of my higher self to express itself through.
With this in mind, regardless of what I’m doing in life, I always remain in the state of being of ‘being a writer’. It makes everything fluid and effortless. It allows for more connection, inspiration and creativity. It flows into better relationships, communication and co-creation. Same for you: if you want success in life, find your core peak state of being, the energy involved, and replicate this in every area of your life. Learn how to be in charge of your state so that you can create the results that you want…
With this last sentence, I have come full circle back to the essence of NLP. Hey, even startled myself! Then again, this is what happens when you are in your flow…
“If you can tune into your purpose and really align with it, setting goals so that your vision is an expression of that purpose, then life flows much more easily.” – Jack Canfield
