All The Small Things

We often mark our progress through life with big events births, deaths and marriages. Yet the value in life is more often in the small things, a look, a smile, a gift, a gesture, a touch, a phone call, a text or just a kind word. These things can be the things which make the biggest difference to how we feel. And sometimes we miss the meaning and value of them as our conscious mind chooses to place its attention on the worries of the future or the pain of the past.

Think through the last week, the last month, last year or as far back as you want to go; what was the nicest thing that someone else has done for you? Recently someone gave me 10p which allowed me to get a drink from a vending machine, without which my son’s football practice would have ended rather dry and uncomfortable for him. I know it’s a really small thing but it made my day when the man, noticing my problem, just gave me the coin.

One of things about coaching or developing other people is noticing where someone else is in their life. Putting yourself into their world and as you do so at the same time as you are seeing their life as it is for them you are also able to step back out and look at their situation objectively. In fact that is where the value for others in being coached often is too. You have somebody who understands where you are and allows you the space to look at that more clearly. A coach can then guide you to guide yourself to where you want to get to.

A good coach will do all of those things to the point where you the client can even think that you have done everything yourself. This skill is itself built up with a multitude of small things that the coach does, most of which will sit outside of the clients conscious awareness. They may notice changes in your physiology as you speak or the emphasis you place on certain words. They will listen very carefully to what you say, knowing that certain words need to be probed a little more, as they will lead to where the problem is. A coach will also utilise their own physiology and words to open up, you the client, to new possibilities.

What people discover on our NLP Practitioner and NLP Coach trainings are many many small things which in summation add up to understanding, growth and transformation. Imagine how your life would be now if you learned or experienced one thing that changed everything in your life. Because through our training programmes you can do just that.

And finally remember to text, call or smile at those who are important in your life, they will appreciate it more than you might think and so will you. Live your life in the small things of the present moment and this will add up to big happiness in your life.
